Civic Engineers, a 40-strong civil and structural engineering practice with studios in London and Manchester, has been appointed for two new school-based projects with King’s Bruton School in Somerset and Rose Hill School in Tunbridge Wells.

The practice has been appointed to undertake structural engineering, including buried drainage design, for a new music school building in the grounds of King’s Bruton School in Somerset. The Architect and Lead Consultant appointed by the school is Levitt Bernstein, who will run the project from their Manchester office.

The new project for King’s Bruton School will involve exploring, developing and implementing innovative structural forms that will enhance and actively contribute to the environmental performance of the building – with strong acoustic performance and low energy use being particularly important.

Civic Engineers’ project with ECE Architecture for Rose Hill School in Tunbridge Wells will involve the covering of an existing swimming pool structure and new foyer. The facilities will enclose the existing outdoor swimming pool and provide additional supporting accommodation. Current proposals are to cater for the existing school session group of up to 27 pupils, with the ability to function independently to allow third party use.

Gareth Atkinson, Director at Civic Engineers, said:

“We’re delighted to have been appointed to undertake structural engineering projects for King’s Bruton School and Rose Hill School. We are very proud of our unique track record in the education sector, and look forward to continuing our work with schools, colleges and universities across the UK.”

Civic Engineering was founded by Directors, Julian Broster and Stephen O’Malley, and now has 40 staff between the two Studios. The civil and structural engineering practice works with a diverse and growing client base, including several clients in the education sector, with award-winning projects including new buildings of all types, historic / listed buildings and urban infrastructure.
