Gray Scanlan Hill takes space at The Old Post Office, Manchester

Manchester based, independent building surveying consultant, Gray Scanlan Hill, has relocated to The Old Post Office, Newton Street in the Northern Quarter, close to Piccadilly in Manchester’s city centre.

Gray Scanlan Hill moved to its new offices after agreeing to take 2,200 sq ft of space on a five year lease from O’Connell East Architects (OEA), who purchased The Old Post Office building in September 2011, recognising its potential for conversion.

OEA’s investment has successfully repurposed the upper ground floor former Post Office Hall conserving an important part of Manchester’s heritage and writing another chapter in the history of this building, originally constructed in the late 1890’s, extended with two floors of residential added in the 1990’s and now providing two self-contained contemporary office units. The original characteristics of the Post Office Hall, which benefits from six-metre floor to ceiling heights and full height windows, has enabled the introduction of balconied mezzanine floors.

Gray Scanlan Hill’s move follows its celebration last year of ten years in business, which has seen the company develop as one of the leading independent specialist building surveying consultancies in the North West. The company has also recently added further director-level expertise and grown its neighbourly matters team.

Mike Scanlan, a director at Gray Scanlan Hill said:

“O’Connell East Architects has created a unique and interesting space at The Old Post Office. We envisage that our relocation to the Northern Quarter will inspire and benefit our team and ultimately enhance how we service and work with our clients.”
